Douglas, WY - The City of Douglas officially launched Nurses Week with a formal proclamation delivered by Mayor Kim Pexton on Monday, April 28, 2025. The event, marking the beginning of the statewide celebration running from May 6th to 12th, brought together local nurses and aspiring healthcare professionals to recognize their vital contributions to the community.
Nineteen individuals, including dedicated nurses and enthusiastic students from the Eastern Wyoming College Nursing Program, attended the proclamation ceremony. Mayor Pexton read aloud the official document, highlighting the indispensable role registered nurses play in Wyoming's healthcare system.
The proclamation emphasized several key aspects of the nursing profession, drawing attention to the fact that registered nurses constitute the state's largest healthcare profession. It further acknowledged the "depth and breadth" of their expertise in meeting the diverse and evolving health needs of Wyoming residents across a multitude of settings.
Mayor Pexton underscored the work of the Wyoming Nurses Association in advocating for increased access to primary and preventative care and the better utilization of the state's nursing resources. The proclamation also recognized professional nursing as a critical component in ensuring the safety and quality of care for both hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients.
Looking to the future, the proclamation addressed the growing demand for registered nursing services due to the aging population, emerging health challenges, advancements in medical technology, and the expansion of home healthcare. It stressed the increasing need for qualified registered nurses to meet the complex needs of healthcare consumers in the Douglas community and beyond.
Finally, Mayor Pexton formally proclaimed May 6-12, 2025, as Nurses Week in the City of Douglas, aligning with the Wyoming Nurses Association's declaration and their theme, "The Power of Nurses." The proclamation called upon the residents of Douglas to celebrate the accomplishments and efforts of registered nurses in improving the healthcare system and to show their appreciation not just during this week, but throughout the entire year.
The signing of the proclamation, bearing the Executive Seal of the Mayor of Douglas, served as a powerful kickoff to a week dedicated to honoring the tireless dedication and crucial work of nurses in Wyoming. The presence of future nurses from Eastern Wyoming College further underscored the importance of recognizing and supporting the next generation of healthcare heroes.
